But Cannon films? Ninety minutes of entertainment, almost every single time. Now, I know what you're thinking: "But if Cannon pictures are fun when they're bad, why not just watch New World movies?" Because that's like dunking on a fourth grader. This original matte-painting style logo stood as the standard logo until 1994, when a CGI logo was created. with accompanying fanfare by Alfred Newman. And when you're watching a bad movie, you've gotta make your own fun, sort of like how Zack Snyder's Justice League is a laugh riot for four straight hours. This iconic production company logo was created in the mid-1930s by special effects animator Emil Kosa, Jr. So, when I see the Cannon Films logo, I know that I'm probably in for a movie that clocks one to two stars on a four-star scale (which is the only civilized way to rate films), but I also know that I'm going to get ninety minutes of entertainment out of it, whether that's because the movie is good or because it's bad. And a ton of others, but those are the ones that immediately pop into my mind when I think Cannon. Delta Force, Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo, American Ninja, Ninja III: The Domination, Masters of the Universe, Cyborg, Bloodsport, Lifeforce, and Runaway Train, which got three Oscar nominations. You might not get the most bankable actors, but they're not embarrassments to their craft.Ĭannon produced just an incredible number of guilty-pleasure films. All levels of skill and experience are welcome. For all the young theatre makers out there, this is an opportunity to devise a production with us and to perform a professional-quality play at Pegasus, working with local director Emma Webb. You may not get the best crew, but they're competent. Join our Pegasus Young Company 16-25 to embark on an exciting collaborative journey. And I love bad movies, as long as there's a certain level of production value, and Cannon didn't disappoint on that front. They weren't like New World, where something watchable was a goddamn miracle because the budget was so low. They made a lot of mediocre films, and a fair number of bad films, but they rarely ever made abject garbage. Absolutely my favorite studio of all time.
